Built by convicts in the 1850s, Fremantle Prison spent 140 years as a place of incarceration and punishment. Today, it is an awesome location for functions, events and weddings.

The Prison consists of several different function areas, starting with the Main Cell Block – four storeys of prison cells, divided into four divisions. Large double doors between each division mean the space can be customised to suit your group size.

The Commissariat, consisting of two stylish underground rooms with thick limestone walls, is great for cocktail style engagement parties or weddings; while the industrial-looking East Workshops – originally built for inmates’ activities and as a training ground for unskilled prisoners – are perfect for seated dinners with a band and dance floor.

Along with other spaces including the Crown Theatre, Prison Yards, Gatehouse and two Chapels, Fremantle Prison provides plenty of character spaces to ensure a memorable start to your life sentence together.

Fremantle Prison’s Gift Shop provides merchandise to complete your wedding. With souvenir keys and enamel ‘prisoner’ mugs your guests will cherish their memento of your wedding.

As WA’s only World Heritage Listed building Fremantle Prison also provides a stunning backdrop for wedding photos. Exclusive photo shoots can be arranged as part of your wedding, or independently of having your ceremony or reception onsite.
